Author:Marg
Publication:Marg
Enumeration:Vol. 33 Issue no. 1, p. 81-96
Abstract:The article is based on John Irwin's monograph "Studies in Indo-European Textile History", summarized here by Lance Dane. It outlines the different phases of Indo-European textile trade in the 17th century. Centres of textile production important to European and Arab trade were in Gujarat, Sindh, Rajputana, the Coromandel coast, Bengal, Orissa, and the Gangetic valley. The articles of trade were cotton textiles, silks, painted and printed calicos, embroideries, hand-woven pile carpets, and cloth paintings.
