Paintings and Sketches of Nandalal Bose

Title:Paintings and Sketches of Nandalal Bose
Author:Parimoo, Ratan
Publication:Marg
Enumeration:Vol. 36 Issue no. 2, p. 5-20
Abstract:At the end of the 19th century there emerged in Bengal a style of painting which was typical of the mood of those times -- reflecting the impact of Western civilization as well as a chauvinistic return to traditional values. It was inspired by an ideology whose protagonists and practitioners sought to establish a national art revival. This school exercised an immense influence on the teaching of art in the country until the 1940s. Nandalal Bose is generally acknowledged as a major painter of the Bengal school.
