Schools of Kathak: Jaipur Gharana

Title:Schools of Kathak: Jaipur Gharana
Author:Saxena, S.K.
Publication:Marg
Enumeration:Vol. 12 Issue no. 4; September 1959, p. 12-15
Abstract:The Jaipur school prospered essentially under the patronage of Rajasthan's princely states, and came under the influence of the Lucknow gharana. The history of the Jaipur gharana may be traced through Bhanuji and his descendants who mastered the tandava and lasya styles. The house of Bhanuji is represented by the brothers Mohan Lal, Chiranji Lal, and Narayan Prasad -- all being Kathak teachers -- and by Charan Girdhar, the son of Narayan Prasad. Brief profiles of Jaya Lal and Narayan Prasad are appended.
