Survey of Arts and Crafts of Rajasthan: Techniques of Important Crafts and their Adaptations to Modern Use -- Textiles: Bandhani

Title:Survey of Arts and Crafts of Rajasthan: Techniques of Important Crafts and their Adaptations to Modern Use -- Textiles: Bandhani
Author:Dhamija, Jasleen
Publication:Marg
Enumeration:Vol. 18 Issue no. 1; December 1964, p. 28-29
Abstract:Bandhani, the tying and dyeing of woven fabrics, is perhaps the earliest form of resist patterning. Rajasthan has a variety of bandhani, and each area, caste, and tribe has its own special designs. The bandhej workers of Mewar are from the Chavda community, while those of Jaipur are generally Rangrez. The main bandhani centres are at Jaipur and Jodhpur. The bandhani worn by women includes chunri (best prepared at Bikaner and Sikar), and odhni, while the men wear bandhani pugrees.
