Title:Amber and Jaipur: Temples in a Changing State Stones in the Sand: The Architecture of Rajasthan, edited by Giles Tillotson,

Abstract:Temples built in Jaipur, the new Kachhwaha capital, in the 18th century and later, reveal a distinctive change from those constructed in the earlier Kachhwaha capital of Amber. This article explores the reasons for these changes, in particular the rejection of the towering superstructure found on earlier temples. It concludes by showing that the founder of Jaipur and his successors desired to create a non-sectarian city which served as a backdrop for royal procession.
