Biography: Ananth Lal

Born in 1927 in Varanasi in a family of traditional musicians, Shri Ananth Lal learnt Shehnai from his father Pandit Mithai Lal. He was a great student of the eminent vocalist Mahadev Prasad Mishra of Varanasi.Besides the Shehnai, he also plays the flute.

Establishing himself early as a shehnai player of repute,Shri Ananth Lal served Akashvani as a staff artist for many years. He has performed widely all over the country, as well as Europe, the United States, and the Soviet Union. Among his students and several well known shehnai and flute players of the younger generation, including his son Daya Shankar.
