Biography: Jitendra Abhisheki

Born in 1929 in the village of Mangeshi, in Goa,Shri Jitendra Abhisheki learnt vocal music from Pandit Jagannathbua Purohit and Ustad Azmat Hussain Khan of Agra gharana and Shri Gulubhai Jasdanwala of Jaipur gharana. He is endowed with a rich voice and has evolved a distinct style of singing Khayal. He is also well known for his rendering of Marathi natyasangeeth and devotional songs.

A popular musician, Shri Jitendra Abhisheki has performed extensively over the past thirty years and has issued a number of gramophone records and cassettes. He has also composed music for more than twenty five Marathi musicals and published extensively on various aspects of Hindustani music. Awarded the Homi Bhabha Fellowship for research on Hindustani music, Shri Jitendra Abhisheki is associated as an adviser with various institutions including the All India Radio.
