Bhavanishankar Vishveswar Burde (1897-1984)  was  an adventurous entrepreneur of Kumta.  He was born as the eldest son of the Burde family. He was compelled to give up a job in Reserve Bank of India in Mumbai and return to the town of Kumta to help bring up his big extended family. He started  a rice mill along with flour making  and coconut-oil extracting -- the first of their  kind in  the North Kanara district.  Everything was hand made, and  the oilmill  run by bullocks. His one horsepower mill, running on crude oil was revolutionary in those days! (early 1920s).

Quote Begin

The Janata Database is different from all other parts of this website, because the subjects are identified.

So instead of being a brahmin, a beggar, a tribal or an entertainer, they become historical figures.
