Brief History of Haryana
The region of Haryana is mentioned as Brahmavarta in the
Manusmruti,
and the name Haryana evokes memories of mythology and history. On
the banks of the river Saraswati, the rishis (sages) in their yogic trance perceived
the hymns of the Vedas. At Kurukshetra, the epic
battle of Mahabharata was fought. At Thanesar rule Harshavardhana
1400 years ago. His was the last Hindu empire. After him
the country remained divided into regional kingdoms till
the Tomara Rajputs established themselves in Delhi.
Around 1000 A.D. Mahmud Ghazani invaded India and plundered Thanesar. That tempted other invading armies to march
on its soil in the following centuries.
