I grew up in the shadows of Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. We lived within the walking distance from the campus and almost all of my father's customers were students or faculty of the Institute. I have gone to the campus to photograph scientific experiments, to party with friends, to hang out in the campus book store -- for a long time IISc campus book store was the only place we could buy foreign published engineering books -- and to take some classes (I really took only one --Computer Networks as part of the continuing education). I have known lots of professors there and my association with the Indian Institute of Science is a long and a fond one. Here's a picture of me at IISc, probably in front of the canteen.
As the Indian Institute of Science celebrates its 100th year, I am happy to present you some rare photographs and stories. For example, did you know that the idea for the institute developed on ship from Japan to USA between Jamsetji Tata and Swami Vivekananda in the year 1898?
