It took me to a webpage with my email pre-filled, and then asked me to confirm it (duh!). When I did, it gave me an error:

It is obvious that the Verizon app programmer didn't take a course on usability or in Internet programming. Email addresses (like domain names) are not typically case-insensitive. First of all, it is them who capitalized my email.
If they did this to 93 million customers, a grade of "Big F" for Verizon as it enters the cool iPhone world.
