Hori Habba or Celebration of Bull Festival

Hori Habba festival is celebrated, typically on the occasion of Diwali festival as celebration of cows and bulls. It is also called Hatti Habba and Kobbari Hori.

A Gopuja (worship of the cow) is performed. In some areas of Karnataka, like Haveri and Shimoga the bulls are decorated and chased in the streets and young people try to catch and stop them. Usually dried coconuts (copra or Kobbari), and cash is tied to the necks and the catcher gets to keep whatever he catches. Only men participate in the catching of the running bulls.
