Jai Karnataka

Introduction

Welcome to the Section on Karnataka at Kamat's Potpourri.

When our son Vikas was seven years old, he wanted to write a book just like his father. He did write a series of essays, which he titled Jai Karnataka. After twenty five years, that is the title we chose for our section on Karnataka at Kamat's Potpourri.

Karnataka being our home, has been the field of our research for a long time. My doctoral dissertation was on Karnataka (Social Life in Medieval Karnataka), and my husband has extensively traveled in the state. Our son  Vikas studied in a Kannada medium school and the language is a dear one to all of us at Kamat's Potpourri.

As you browse through the website, you will discover priceless portraits of Kannada geniuses, ancient Kannada inscriptions, stunning nature shots, studies on its glorious temples, and  a complete integration of all of these, although there are separate sub-sections for Bangalore, Mysore, Karavali, Kannada Literature, Bijapur etc.,

Kamat Who? The Kamats have contributed to Karnataka long before the World-wide-Web. K. L.Kamat's America travelogue (Nanoo Americage Hogidde) is considered one of the Century's Best Kannada literary works (by The Udayavani Newspaper). Jyotsna Kamat is the recipient of the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 1991 Krishnanand Kamat's Bastara Pravasa  was awarded the Karnataka Literary Academy Award 1991 Jyotsna's Karnatakada Shikshana Parampare  was awarded Karnataka Literary Academy Award 1988 Krishnanand Kamat's Nanoo Americage Hogidde (Manohar Grintha Mala)  was awarded the Karnataka Literary Academy Award 1969
