Abstract:The article introduces the Gajantaka theme as described in literary sources, and identifies the sequences of this legend on the coverlet, now in the collection of the Museum, New Delhi. These sequences are: Shiva ganas running after Gajasura who is chasing Nadi; Shiva, Parvati, and attendants moving to Nandi's rescue; Shiva and Parvati seated, with Gaja's skin draped over Shiva's shoulder; and gods and goddesses showering flowers on Shiva and Parvati.
