Abstract:In the last 20 years there has been a remarkable growth of interest in the Vijayanagara site on the part of archaeologists and art historians, and the broad range of documentation activities are outlined here. The endeavours of these scholars testify to a growing recognition of Hampi as the outstanding Hindu urban site of pre-modern south India. The articles assembled here touch on many aspects of the vigorous interdisciplinary exploration and documentation of Hampi taken up by the Vijayanagara Research Project.
