Abstract:This note examines the type of chariots that are used in ceremonial processions of deities. Some of these contain panels that narrate a whole story, whereas others are illustrated with various mythological incidents. One prominent example of the former style is discussed. This is the chariot belonging to the Ramasvami temple at Kumbakonam, in Tamil Nadu, which depicts the story of Rama in some 155 panels.
