| Abstract: | South Kanara has been described as the land of tanks(Kerenadu) and the Hoysalas during their 250 year rule built many tanks.The importance they gave to tank irrigation, cost of constructing them, the references in inscriptions to tanks and provisions made for their maintenances etc, is discussed here. The paper gives a chronological account of tanks built, the details of men who built them etc.
