Biography: Atmaram Mahadev Atavane

Mr. Atavane was born at Panvel, April 11th  of year 1885. He was born to be purple. He is a good-humored man of the world. Early in life he took to business, a congenial field where his genius first broke ground.

His self-taught education has kept pace with the advancing political tendencies. His buoyant spirit, which worked at high power pitch won-him the much-coveted title "Nagar Shet".

He is a pioneer in the cause of education. He gave a munificent donation of Rs. 25,000 to the Konkan Education Society. His generous impulses, tender pity and unabated zeal have made him a remarkable man.

Due to his financial support the Kolaba Zilla Sabha held in 1907 and the Maharashtra Provincial Conference was a great success. In 1926 he was elected to the Bombay Legislative Council on the Congress ticket. In obedience to the Lahore resolution he resigned his membership. In 1936 he presided over the Nasik Zilla Veera Shaiva Conference and enlisted its support to the Congress. Since 1907 he is working under the Congress banner. He is elected to the Assembly from the Kolaba and Ratnagiri Districts.

His apparent serenity, his distinguished courtesy and his unbounded devotion to the Congress command involuntary respect and esteem.
