George De Silva

Dr.Silva is nothing if not a realist. The glossy purple of fame adorns his brows. He is a most vivacious figure in politics.

He was reared in a Roman Catholic family but regards religion as opium of life. As a political leader he is interested not in verbal logic but in the logic of grim reality.

After securing the L.M & S degree to the Bombay University Dr. Silva proceeded to England for higher studies in medicine. There he secured L.R.C.P, S.E.L.R.F.P, S.D.G.P.H and D.T.M.H. degrees.

He was appointed as a surgeon and worked for nine years. Thereafter he resigned that post and set up private practice. In 1932 he joined the Congress.

Dr. Silva has interested himself in the constructive work of the Congress. Labour, Harijan and youth movement are the three spheres of his activities.
