Vijeypal Singh

Ch. Vijeypal Singh was born in 1895 in a small village in Bulanshahr District in Uttar Pradesh. he had a brilliant academic career, winning many medals for his achievements in the scholastic and sports field.

During his college days he began taking interest in politics. He gave up his law studies in 1921 to join the Non Co-operation movement and was convicted. On his release he served as headmaster of the Jal National School, Rohtak

In 1926 he was elected a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council as a Congress Nominee. In obedience to the Congress mandate he resigned in 1930.

The Salt Satyagraha Campaign in 1930 found him in jail again, this time for six months under the Criminal Law Amendment Act. He acted as Defense Counsel in the Delhi Conspiracy Case in 1931-1932.

He is a social reformer and does not believe in castes and creeds. Although he is a Jat by birth, he married Srimati Satyavati Devi, M.L.A in 1928. She is a Brahmin by caste and was a professor of  Theology in Kanya Mahavidyalaya Jullundur, in Punjab

He has been elected to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly as a Congress Candidate during the 1937 elections.
