Tsunami Damage

The natural disaster India has experienced the past weekend is the worst the country has experienced in modern times. Entire villages have been wiped out and there is a tremendous shortage of water and shelter on India's east-coast. Vacationers, fishermen and other beach-dwellers have been particularly badly hit.

When I was in broadcasting, we didn't have access to satellite imagery, and the news was carefully controlled so as to not cause panic in the population. During this disaster, the graphic pictures have brought the tragedy home -- although I am very happy to note the courage of young girls braving to the frontlines to report news for all television channels.

The next challenge is to prevent breakout of diseases like cholera and bacterial infections. The poorest people are the most vulnerable.

As promised, here is the entry on my interactions with Kuvempu.
