References and Pointers to Further Study

As exotic and sensational educational institution as the Ghotul is, the system is hardly studied or documented. Much of this section comes from first hand knowledge and experience of Kamat while traveling and living with the tribes of Central India. We have compiled the following list of resources for students of anthropology who wish to explore the system of Ghotuls further.

  • Kamat Krishnanand, "Ghotulagalu - Kadina Yuva Vishwa" (The Universe of the Young), Sudha Deepavali Special Issue, 1980

  • Kamat K.L., The Timeless Theater, CyberCrow, 1999

  • Kamat K.L., KalaRanga, Manohara Grintha Mala, 1982

  • Curling Chris, The Muria, Documentary - 30 minutes, 1982

  • Elwin, Verrier, The Muria and their Ghotul, Oxford University Press, Oxford, 1947

  • Gell, Mansingh, The Ghotul in Muria Society. PhD thesis, Australian National University, Canberra, 1984
