A Sikh Warrior
A Horse Mounted Sikh Warrior

Guru Gobind Singh organized the Sikhs to counter the threats and the tyranny of Moghul king Aurangjeb against the Hindus and the Sikhs. He built the institution of Khalsa (pure) as a military of holy warriors and instituted Pahun (initiation into Khalsa) and commanded the Khalsa to bear the five 'K's of  Kesh (long hair), Kangha (comb), Kirpan (sword), Kachha (short drawers) and Kara (steel bracelets)  to symbolize battle readiness and bravery. The picture above, taken from a 18th century lithograph shows a horse mounted Sikh soldier.
