Pencil sketch by Vikas Kamat, 2004

Mangal Pandey was an Indian soldier (a sepoy) in the British Army during 1857 and in anger of British atrocities in India, killed his British supervisor. This incident catapulted into what eventually came to be known as the First Indian War of Independence or the Sepoy Mutiny.
