The town of Tumkur (a.k.a Tumkoor) is located in the administrative district of same name in the state of Karnataka. Primarily a farming town (coconut, tobacco, and sugarcanes), Tumkur became an educational center during the 1980s due the initiative of a local pontiff (swamiji).
