Gandhi Jayanti

Mahatma Gandhi in a Rangoli Design

The festival of Gandhi Jayanti or Gandhi's Birthday is observed  in India, on October 2nd, in celebration of India's most famous sons, Mahatma Gandhi. People visit Raj Ghat or pay homage to Gandhi wherever his statues are erected. Gandhi's favorite songs are sung.

Gandhi Jayanti is a national holiday in India. Schools and Government offices are closed for business.
